Spain joins up with the fines against weekly rest in the cabin of international carriers

Any driver that is performing a weekly rest of 45 hours aboard their lorry will be fined for a modification in the rules that regulate the driving and resting times of the Tribunal of Justice in the European Union.
The ministry of development has announced this new law in the Rule 561/2006 that already established the necessity of performing this rest, although it did not specifiy where it had to be done and it is anticipated to be approved on the next 1st of July.
The severity of the infraction will be calculated depending on the time of the rest that is carried out incorrectly in the lorry’s cabin: the more time resting, the higher the fee and this will only affect the normal weekly rests (of over 45 hours) that the profesional driver must do every two weeks.
There are member countries of the European Union where this measure is already in place, like in France, Belgium, Germany, the UK and Holland.
